There are 3 cats in need of rescue at the MatSu shelter this week. The

The Valley is still in desperate need of foster care for cats and
kittens - I'm told our puppy population is finally dropping off, but
our homeless cat situation continues to grow. Last Chance Rescue in
Anchorage is still in desperate need of help to place 16 cats before
they lose their lease on August 1st. If you can help, call me at
841-0502 for details.
I received three urgent requests from families in Wasilla this week: A
purebred boxer was abandoned when his family moved - they just left
him, right there in the yard. The neighbors have been trying to help
him, but he's in need of a foster home until he can find a new family.
Another family lost their home and can't have their dog in their
emergency shelter - if we can find foster care for him for about 90
days, they will be able to take him back when they get another place to
stay. Yet another family has found a stray pregnant mommy kitty; they
are allergic to cats, and no other rescue will take her in. If you can
foster any of these babes, call me or send me an email.
Some really great news - I got a notice from Alaska Dog and Puppy
Rescue that they have begun a spay/neuter sponsorship program at the
MatSu Shelter. This program will pay part of the cost of spay/neuter
for pets adopted from the shelter. With the STOP program's funds
running out so quickly every year, this will be a real help to
abandoned babes and families who want to save lives. You can find out
more from the folks at ADP&R by emailing adpr03@yahoo.com
Another wonderful bit of news from ADP&R: They are considering
putting funds toward a no-kill dog sanctuary for the Valley. If this
becomes a reality, Compassion in Action will be able to direct the
sanctuary donations from Kaladi Brothers customers to make the Kitty
Kottage a real, live cat sanctuary sooner than we thought. If you are
part of ADP&R, please give your board members a big thank-you and
help them make this happen.
Kaladi Brothers Coffee in Wasilla is hosting a Sidewalk Sale as a
fundraiser for Compassion in Action on Saturday, August 12. If you
would like to donate nicer used stuff, handicrafts or baked goods, let
me know and I can arrange to get it there. The store really has no
space to store items, so please don't take anything there until Friday,
August 11. The fundraisers sponsored by Palmer Tesoro and Alaska Video
Cache raised almost $900 - with that money, I was able to bring the
Emergency Vet Care bill at Palmer Vet down to less than $1,000 for the
first time in many months! Thanks to everyone who donated items for
sale, and to the three families who help me run the sales.
The lovely ladies at the Wasilla Pet Zoo have been an amazing ally to
Compassion in Action. A recent contest between the Anchorage, Palmer
and Wasilla stores to raise donations for pet rescues resulted in a big
win for the Wasilla store; they won the contest, hands-down. They were
able to donate almost $500 for CIA - with a $900/month food bill for
the dogs and cats here, this couldn't have come at a better time. If
you are a Pet Zoo or Animal Food Warehouse customer, please be sure to
thank them for all their help.
The Compassion in Action Pet Fair will be at the Wasilla Pet Zoo
Sunday, 1pm to 5pm. Families looking for new homes for their pets are
welcome to join us.
