There are 5 kittens, 5 dogs and 2 puppies in need of rescue at the MatSu shelter this week. The link to pictures of sponsored pets on the Last Chance page is http://adoptafriend.net/lastchance.html

Four kittens have been placed in my care this week; a rescue in Anchorage, Chateau Pampered Purrs, is willing to take them. My work schedule is frantic for the next week, and these kits need a ride to their new way-station. Anyone heading that way sometime soon? Give me a call at 841-0502.

One of my blind kitties is in need of a placement - she's healthy and leash-trained so that she can still play outside. Please give me a call if you can make room in your family for her.

Nine Siberian huskies are in need of new homes. Their family is leaving the state because of health problems, and want to find permanent placements for their babes before they leave. Several of these huskies will attend this Sunday's Pet Fair at Wasilla Pet Zoo; their pictures will be on the "My Pet Needs a New Home" page at adoptafriend.net on Monday.

This week, the last three shelter dogs in the SPOT Program graduated and were made available for adoption. The Shelter Pet Obedience Training program has been going on at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center in Eagle River since May, and placed six dogs from the MatSu Shelter in the care of six specially screened, trained and selected inmates for weeks of obedience training. All have been adopted save one sweet boy - you can meet him at the shelter this weekend.

Alaska Winds Coursing Club is sponsoring Lure Coursing field trials at the fairgrounds Saturday and Sunday, August 12 and 13. Lure coursing is chasing a white plastic bag around a triangular pulley course.  Dogs are matched for breed, size, and temperament.  This is a great game for sight hounds.  It’s also a good time to see if your dog would take to the game.  The pure breed competition is noon-3pm, followed by the mixed breed competition  There is free admission with a trial entry from $15-20 and a fun run for $5.  You can get more information at http://akwinds.com

Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue is setting up a Sanctuary Fund, and has begun the work required to receive funding from the Putnam Grant and Maddy's Fund programs. You can learn more about this GREAT PROJECT by emailing Alaska Dog and Puppy Rescue at adpr03@yahoo.com

Kaladi Brothers Coffee in Wasilla is hosting a Sidewalk Sale as a fundraiser for Compassion in Action on Saturday, August 12. We'll be there to set up at 7am. The sale starts at 8am, and Mike Dillingham's book signing will start at 10am.

Kaladi Brothers aluminum drive ends the last week of August; please don't send any more cans their way after that last week.

The Compassion in Action Pet Fair will be at the Wasilla Pet Zoo Sunday, 1pm to 5pm. Families looking for new homes for their pets are welcome to join us.
