NAPPS OFFERS INFORMATION ON DISASTER PLANNING FOR PETS

 As the peak of hurricane season approaches, the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS) is encouraging pet sitters and owners to take advantage of the official NAPPS Disaster Preparedness Guide, and be prepared with a plan for their pets or those in their care should disaster strike. 

NAPPS Disaster Preparedness Guide, unveiled last year following the fierce hurricane season, provides pet sitters and pet owners with educational and reference tools to help guide them through natural and man-made disasters.  The plan was developed by NAPPS’ Disaster Preparedness Committee in an effort to assist members and pet owners in developing personalized disaster plans for their businesses and homes.  The NAPPS Disaster Preparedness Plan covers disasters of all types, including tornadoes and thunderstorms, hurricanes, floods, winter storms, extreme heat and wildfires, earthquakes, tsunamis, and even volcanoes.  Recently, a section on terrorism was added to the comprehensive plan.

Should disaster strike, pet sitters must worry about their own well-being, as well as the welfare of their customers’ pets. The purpose of this plan is to assist NAPPS members in meeting that responsibility, and provide information that they can share with their clients.  The guide includes an official pet identification form, checklist for a complete Disaster Supply Kit, and even special recommendations for birds, reptiles, and other small animals.
